Tom Mallouk

Tom Mallouk is a psychotherapist/poet whose work has appeared in a number of literary journals, including GW Review, The Pisgah Review, The Quercus Review, Red Rock Review, US 1 Worksheets, The Schuykyll Valley Journal and The Sun. He was runner up in 2010, 2012 and 2013 for the Bucks County poet laureate. His chapbook, Nantucket Revisited, was published by Antrim House (2013). His creative non fiction essay “Reflections on Psychiatry, the Fear of Insanity, Trauma and Psychotherapy” was featured in the Spring 2014 edition of Solstice Literary magazine. He resides in Doylestown with his wife Dr. Eileen Engle with whom he has raised two daughters, Kaitlin and Meghan.

Artistic Statement
For me writing is a relational process that begins with the assumption of an imagined other who wants to hear or be entertained by what I have to say. I access fragments from my own experience and elaborate from there with my attunement to this imagined other guiding me. When I workshop my poems, I try to be receptive to the feedback of my fellow writers knowing they have a closer relationship to my imagined other since they are, in fact, other. When it works, the dynamic of writing, reading, feedback and rewriting creates a deep connection between me and my audience.
